Together for a Rabies-Free Mumbai: Free Vaccinations for Community Animals

ree

Our community animals — the friendly dogs and cats wagging their tails outside our building gates, the quiet cats resting under parked cars — are an integral part of our neighborhoods. They bring comfort, joy, and a sense of connection to our streets. It’s only fair that we give them the same care and protection they give us every single day.

This year, Raksha is proud to partner with IVSA Mumbai (International Veterinary Students’ Association – Mumbai Chapter) to provide FREE rabies vaccinations for community dogs and cats across the city.

This initiative is sponsored by Indian Immunologicals Limited and supported by CAWA (Companion Animal Welfare Association) — powering our mission to create stronger, healthier, and safer communities for animals and humans alike.

🛡️ Why Rabies Vaccination Matters

Rabies is one of the deadliest yet most preventable diseases in the world. A vaccine that takes just a few minutes can protect a life for an entire year.

Without vaccination, community animals remain vulnerable to infections — and humans are equally at risk. By vaccinating street animals, we take a crucial step toward breaking the chain of transmission and ensuring a safer environment for everyone.

🌟 Benefits of Anti-Rabies Vaccination (ARV)

1️⃣ Protects the AnimalPrevents a painful and fatal disease, ensuring a longer and healthier life.

2️⃣ Protects Humans & Other AnimalsStops the spread of rabies in neighborhoods, reducing bite and exposure risks.

3️⃣ Builds a Rabies-Free CommunityRegular ARV drives contribute to public health and disease control goals, helping India move toward its national plan to eliminate rabies.

4️⃣ Encourages Compassionate Co-ExistenceVaccinated animals are often tagged or collared — making them more accepted and cared for by communities.

5️⃣ Supports Animal Welfare StandardsARVs are an essential part of responsible animal care, a step toward a humane and safe society.
