Located in the heart of Mahalaxmi, Mumbai, the Raksha Animal Welfare Center is a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to the rescue, treatment, sterilization, and lifelong care of stray and abandoned animals. Our mission is simple yet vital: to give every animal a fighting chance — with dignity, compassion, and world-class medical care.

Our Mahalaxmi center is designed to handle everything from emergency rescues to long-term treatment and rehabilitation. With an expert team of veterinarians, caregivers, and animal behaviorists, we operate 365 days/year to serve the needs of Mumbai’s voiceless.

🔬 Advanced Veterinary Care

Our in-house veterinary clinic is equipped to provide both routine and complex treatments for dogs, cats, and small animals.

Facilities include:

Modern surgical suite with anesthesia, oxygen, and vital monitoring
Ultrasound & ECG facilities
IV fluid therapy and blood testing lab
Isolation and infectious disease control zones
Post-operative recovery area with heating and monitoring

🧑‍⚕️ Our Veterinary Team

Our team is led by experienced veterinarians with a combined 20+ years of field experience in small animal medicine and surgery. The medical staff includes:

Skilled veterinary surgeons for sterilization and orthopedic procedures
Veterinary nurses and on-call emergency responders
Animal behaviorists for trauma and stress rehabilitation
Dedicated caretakers for round-the-clock monitoring

Our vets are trained in compassionate care, fear-free handling, and have treated over 10,000 animals across Raksha's outreach programs.

🏥 Treatment & Surgical Capacity

We are proud to be one of Mumbai’s few high-volume sterilization and treatment centers for strays. Our current weekly capacity includes:

🧬 60 Sterilizations per week: High-efficiency and safe spay/neuter procedures for stray dogs and cats, with post-op recovery care.
🛏️ 25 IPD (In-Patient Department) cases: For animals undergoing extended treatment for wounds, injuries, illness, or surgeries.
🚧 20 Isolation Cases: Fully separated treatment ward for infectious diseases such as parvovirus, distemper, or mange — with strict biosecurity protocols.

🐶 Recovery & Rehab Kennels

Spacious, sanitized recovery kennels with natural ventilation, rubber flooring, and enrichment areas to keep animals calm during healing.

🧊 Climate-Controlled Zones

Our medical zones are equipped with temperature control systems to ensure stable conditions for post-op and critical care animals.

💧 Clean Water & Nutrition System

Animals are given clean, filtered water and species-appropriate, vet-monitored diets throughout their stay.

🧽 Hygiene & Disinfection

All areas are sanitized twice daily using veterinary-grade disinfectants. Our center follows strict SOPs for hygiene, waste disposal, and vector control.

🚑 Emergency Response & Rescue

We operate a Mobile Rescue Unit for stray emergencies across South Mumbai. The unit is equipped for:

On-site first aid
Animal transport in trauma cages
Quick response to road accident cases, animal cruelty, or illness reports
